Nov 22, 2010 (newstodate): Freight volumes through Uzbekistan's Navoi International Airport are skyrocketing by 80 percent in 2010.
In the first 10 months of this year, Uzbekistan Airways carried 83.2 percent more freight, primarily driven by shipments through the new dynamic hub at Navoi International Airport.
The airport saw the number of freighter flight growing to 674 operations generating a total of 18,500 tonnes of freight - 300 percent up on 2008.
In August 2010 the airport commissioned a new cargo terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes and providing a vital element in the plan to set up an international logistics center at Navoi as contained in the MoU between Uzbekistan Airways and Korean Air, signed in February 2008.
At Navoi, shipments are transferred between Korean and Uzbekistan Airways that operates 11 weekly flights with Airbus A300-600F on routes including Navoi-Delhi-Navoi, Navoi-Mumbai-Navoi, Navoi-Bangkok-Navoi, and Navoi- Frankfurt-Navoi.
