Nov 26, 2010 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport's new perishables handling facility, APH Logistics has now obtained all security approvals by the Swedish Transport Administration.
-It has been a rather lengthy process - somewhat longer than we had anticipated, but were warned that it would require up to six months which proved to be the case, says Einar Longva, APG Logistics managing director.
-We are thus moving into our next phase which will bring in handling of perishables export also, in addition to import that is already handled.
-But we are talking not only of air cargo, but also cross-docking of commodities like fresh seafood exports from producers in northern, central and even southern Norway, destined for trucking to markets in Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe.
-All this requires the fine-tuning of a range of operational issues in coordination with Spirit Air Cargo handling and Cargo Center Sweden. Basically, all agreements are in place. What remains now is to fill in all the details of daily routines and procedures.
-We are currently busy with handling of the large seasonal imports and immediately following that, handling of exports shipments and cross-docking will be introduced. I expect this to go fully live by February, 2011, says Mr Longva.
