Nov 03, 2010 (newstodate): The Norwegian company Vertech Offshore has performed two flare tip replacements for the French oil company Total in Abu Dhabi - a routine job for the specialized service provider.
What was unique in this operation was that it needed an AS 332C Super Puma helicopter flight from Norway to Abu Dhabi with two helicopter pilots and one mechanic, as no similar and suitable helicopters were available in the Gulf region.
The flight from the base in Norway to Abu Dhabi took four days with a total of 14 fuel-stops and rests along the way.
Behind the helicopter operations was the Norwegian helicopter group Blueway that operates a fleet comprising 26 Eurocopter helicopters of various types, leased and owned.
In 2008, the Blueway acquired the Danish offshore helicopter shuttle service company DanCopter, making it Northern Europe's leading helicopter company.
