Nov 24, 2010 (newstodate): An EU-supported project to promote a new perspective for the future of the air cargo market in the Baltic region has been launched at a kick-off meeting in Berlin on November 18-19, 2010.
Named Baltic.AirCargo.Net, the project to run over the next three years includes partners from Germany, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Belarus and Great Britain.
Through the strengthening of the air cargo sector and a better logistical access to the southern parts of Europe and to Russia, Central Asia and China, the project aims to bring new economic impulses.
The project is based on the finding that although there is a number of well-developed regional airports in the Baltic region, they are currently isolated from the international air cargo market and do not see their future prospects.
Over the next three years, AirCargo.Net will design and develop new concepts and business models for the air cargo sector, which closely relate to the three already running logistics projects Scandria, EWTC2 and TransBaltic.
