Nov 05, 2010 (newstodate): Plans are progressing for construction of a new dedicated air cargo airport in Szombathely, Hungary, close to the Austrian border.
The green-field project aims at attracting operators in the air cargo, aircraft maintenance and aircraft parking business.
Behind the project it the Hungarian company Sia-Port Ltd. in cooperation with U.S. and Chinese partners.
Sia-Port already holds a 75-year lease on the land and plans for construction of a 4,000m runway.
In the plans are facilities to handling of up to 170,000 tonnes of air cargo, compared to the country's Budapest Ferihegy International Airport's current volumes around 60,000 of cargo per year.
newstodate will report more on this project next week when ongoing negotiations between the parties involved will pass a significant milestone.
