Nov 04, 2010 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius Airport has embarked on a winter season with more flights than last winter, proving growing success with airlines.
This winter the airport will have services to 19 destinations, compared to 16 in last winter's schedules.
Among the highlights this winter is the continued build-up by Estonian Air of new flights and frequencies.
The carrier that is opening its second base at Vilnius Airport has now launched services to Stockholm Arlanda, and will add flights to Milan from December 28, 2010.
Estonian Air has also decided to launch direct flights from Vilnius to Amsterdam, and the Ukrainian carrier Aerosvit is now upping frequency to two daily flights on its route between Vilnius and Kiev.
The Latvian carrier airBaltic will also launch flights from Vilnius to Munich from December 25.
Traffic at Vilnius Airport hit a low by the start of 2009 as the country's leading carrier flyLAL folded its wings.
