Nov 11, 2010 (newstodate): It is tough times for airline projects seeking financing of their activities.
At least three airline projects in the Nordic region are far behind original plans for start of operations - all citing financial issues as the main reason behind delays.
In Iceland, plans for a new cargo carrier named ProAviation are still active, but while the Icelandic CAA has now completed its application for an AOC, no start-up date is in sight.
-Airlines business is clearly little attractive to international investors these days, so we will have to wait and see, says a spokesman for the project group that aimed at setting up ProAviation as a freighter carrier and ACMI provider from summer 2010, later adjusted to autumn 2010.
A Swedish cargo carrier project named Air Navigare Cargo aims at establishing a freighter service at Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport to lift Norwegian salmon exports to the global marketplace.
-The project is alive, but the financial situation remains unsettled. We are convinced of the business case but see no immediate solution to our needs for financing, says a project spokesman.
In Denmark, a project group is working to set up a new passenger airline named Sahil Airlines to enter the market for air transportation between UK, Scandinavia and the Indian sub-continent.
Sahil Airlines was registered as a company in 2009, but negotiations concerning the financial issues still remain inconclusive, according to sources in the project group.
