Nov 10, 2010 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport is satisfied with its cargo performance so far into 2010.
In January-October 2010, a total of 3,841 tonnes of cargo and mail has been handled at the airport, up 15 percent y-o-y.
Included in the total is a seven percent growth in cargo and a 19 percent growth in mail volumes.
-The increase proves that we have managed to grow the volumes despite the suspension since May 2010 of Fokker 50 freighter services by Jetpak in cooperation with Amapola, says Herman Larsson, Jonkoping airport director marketing.
-This shortfall of volumes has been outbalanced by a strong growth in volumes by our other important customer TNT Sweden that established its regional hub at Jonkoping Airport from June 2, 2008, operating flights every night to and from Brussels with connections to Oslo, Billund and Helsinki. Another important customer is Post Sweden Logistics that moved from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to set up Jonkoping Airport as a new mini-hub from 2007.
-Our prime asset is the location ideally placed to serving the eastern and southern parts of Sweden, and providing short lead times to destinations in the region as well as fast handling procedures at the airport. In the case of Post Sweden we transfer mail directly on the apron between aircraft and trucks, avoiding terminals altogether.
-Our next goal is to attract an international freighter service to Jonkoping Airport that earlier handled Icelandair Cargo freighter traffic. Our main selling points are the accessibility to major industrial regions in Sweden and a high level of flexibility in handling and operations, says Mr Larsson.
Estimates for this year's total volume through Jonkoping Airport are some 5,000 tonnes of cargo and mail.
