Nov 16, 2010 (newstodate): The Thai resort island Phuket has landed its first direct scheduled non-stop flight from the Middle East.
The privately-owned Iranian carrier Mahan Air will introduced flights on the new route from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport to Phuket from December 6, 2010, using Airbus A300-600 aircraft.
Mahan Air will start out with one weekly flight increasing to two weekly rotations, pending government approval.
Phuket, Mahan Air's 16th international destination, will be Mahan airs second destination in Thailand after Bangkok which is operated by the airline with nine weekly frequencies.
Set up in 1991, Mahan Air operates a fleet comprising 36 aircraft including 27 Airbus aircraft.
