Nov 01, 2010 (newstodate): According to IATA statistics, the world's air cargo volumes were up 14.8 percent, y-o-y, in September 2010.
While still a considerable increase, it bodes ill for near-future prospects as it marks a significant drop from the 19 percent increase in August.
-The freight numbers are worrying. Freight activity has fallen six percent since May's post-crisis peak. What we see in air cargo markets is inevitably reflected in the broader economy, commented Giovanni Bisignani, IATA director general and CEO.
IATA noted that while freight markets were expected to weaken toward year-end, September's decline was larger than anticipated with consumer and business confidence remaining soft in many parts of the world.
