Nov 29, 2010 (newstodate): Sweden will see competition heating up in the handling business.
Latest move into Sweden is the announcement by the Danish handling company Novia that will re-enter the market for ground handling services at Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport in 2011.
Novia pulled out from Sweden in 2008 when Menzies acquired its activities there.
To head the new Swedish handling company Novia has appointed Claus Poulsen, who earlier served as Novia Sweden's managing director and continued in the office during the period with Menzies.
Also flexing its muscles in Scandinavia's ground handling business is Aviator Airport Alliance, an alliance comprising the Swedish company Nordic Aero and the Norwegian companies Roeros Flyservice and Norport Ground Handling.
In addition, the Latvian ground handling company North Hub Services has also declared its intention of expanding into the Swedish handling market from 2011 by setting up a new company at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
