Nov 18, 2010 (newstodate): The UK/Swedish regional freighter company West Atlantic is looking forward to receive its first converted A320 aircraft in 2012.
The aircraft will be placed and registered with the subsidiary in Luxembourg, West Air Luxembourg.
-We are looking forward to take delivery of this aircraft that will open new prospects for us, says Peter Koster, West Air Luxembourg general manager.
-Our assumption is that we are seeing limited growth in our existing turboprop segment in the years to come. Much cargo now flown on short routes between, say, Paris and Amsterdam or Dusseldorf-Leipzig, will increasingly be transferred to road services as the infrastructure develops, or to high-speed train services.
-Instead, new opportunities will arise for integrators providing services on longer flights within the European market, and as this develops, new freighter types providing both capacity and range will be needed.
-In my view, the A320 P2F is a highly attractive option, with 21-22 tonnes of capacity and range to reach all corners of the market. If and when the A321 will also appear as a converted freighter with 28 tonnes of capacity, this will further add to future business opportunities and benefit from cross-certification of crews and mechanics.
The first A320 P2F will be ready for tests and certification in 2011, and begin services with its first operator, West Air Luxembourg, when released.
