Nov 26, 2010 (newstodate): With the first operation on November 19, 2010, Finnair Cargo is back into New York with MD-11 freighter capacity.
The company is offering one weekly rotation between Helsinki and New York, and the market seems to have responded favorably to the new service, including Norway's seafood exporters.
-We had full loads in both directions, and booking figures for our second operation today are also convincing, says Heikki Nikamaa, Finnair Cargo responsible for freighter operations.
-With this latest addition to our freighter route network, we are operating a total of five weekly long-haul rotations with our MD-11F aircraft.
-While the aircraft is busy, there is ample time to perform line maintenance and other technical services. Block hours are still within normal limits, and the operation is working flawlessly.
-We are considering adding a second MD-11F aircraft to our operation, but we are in no hurry. Our existing aircraft is not near the limit, and the second MD-11 is now in Singapore for conversion to freighter after ending its services as a passenger aircraft with Finnair this autumn.
-We expect the conversion to be completed by Q1, 2011, so until then we are free to consider various options, says Mr Nikamaa.
