Nov 08, 2010 (newstodate): Estonian Air may be developing a new strategy of combining direct flights with stop-over connections in the network.
The carrier's new chairman of the supervisory board, Joakim Helenius told reporters at a conference last week that the airline needs more destinations with its limited aircraft fleet, and the answer may be a strategy of routing Estonian flights from Tallinn to end destinations through other airports in e.g. Poland or Lithuania to catch more passengers in an effort to boost booking figures and revenues.
Only the routes with satisfactory yields will then be operated point-to-point, while the carrier can build a network with more destinations than supported by the local market solely.
