Nov 10, 2010 (newstodate): DHL Express is seeing positive results from its freighter service between Leipzig and Billund, Denmark.
The Boeing 757-200F service was established on April 6, 2010 - and grounded immediately after by the Icelandic volcano ashes.
-From the start the freighter was driven primarily by imports, but since early summer export volumes have been increasing, and we are actually now close to a balanced operation, says Michael Hovgaard Poulsen, DHL Express.
-This positive development partly reflects Denmark's over-all sound economic development, but is also builds on the fact that the bulk of Denmark's exporting industries are located in the western part of the country, ideally served by Billund Airport.
-The new freighter operation is one ingredient in our approach to the western Danish market, the other being the opening by July 30, 2010, of our new terminal at Taulov, also in western Denmark. Together these initiatives have bolstered our position significantly, says Mr Hovgaard Poulsen.
