Nov 25, 2010 (newstodate): Flights to Copenhagen may again be on the drawing board at Emirates, with a start from summer 2011.
At least the airline has applied for slots with Airport Coordination Denmark.
-Slots applications are routine matters, and applications do not necessarily lead to launch of services, says Frank Holton, ACD managing director.
-What is maybe interesting in this case is that Emirates has applied for slots for daily afternoon flights into Copenhagen from June 1, 2010, with Airbus A330-200 aircraft - and not just for en entire half-year program. This may indicate a more serious intention, says Mr Holton.
So far Emirates has no comments on the issue.
The carrier has had Copenhagen as a tentative new destination since 2006, first setting October 3, 2006 as the launch date with four weekly A330-200 flights, increasing to daily operations from October 29, 2006, later setting October 31, 2007, for launch of the service with three weekly flights using Airbus A340 aircraft.
These and later plans were, however, suspended for various reasons.
In the meantime an other Gulf carrier, Qatar Airways, operating from Doha to Copenhagen Airport since March 30, 2010, is increasing its frequency from four to five weekly rotations from February 2, 2011, with a sixth flight to be added from February 21, 2011.
