Oct 28, 2010 (newstodate): Worldwide flight Services has launched construction work on a new cargo terminal at Copenhagen Airport.
The new terminal located close to the existing WFS terminal will cover 3,000 sq m and is planned to handed over to WFS by January 15, 2011.
-We expect to be in place by February 1, 2011, and the terminal will become fully operational from March 1, 2011, says Thomas Petersen, WFS Denmark Station Manager.
-This tight schedule builds on a very detailed action plan, but I am confident that we will make it.
-The concept is that the two terminals will be operated in parallel, each with its own customers. The alternative would have been to dedicate them to imports and exports, respectively, but with handling of currently 12 weekly full-freighters this would entail complex logistics and most probably a waste of resources.
-This new terminal will thus be fully equipped with own X-ray equipment, cool and freeze facilities and five work stations for braking/building pallets.
-Also in the plans is construction of 600 m of office space, and fresh staff may be added as required by the market, says Mr Petersen.
The new terminal will add the annual handling capacity of up to 50,000 tonnes of cargo. in addition to the existing terminal's capacity at 60,000 tonnes.
