Oct 21, 2010 (newstodate): The UK/Swedish regional freighter company West Atlantic, poised to become the world's first operator of the converted Airbus A320 freighter, will take in more aircraft of the type.
The contract with the aircraft leasing company AerCap will comprise three aircraft to be delivered between the end of 2012 and mid-2013, with the option of a further four aircraft by 2015.
-At this stage it has not been decided exactly how we are going to utilize these aircraft, but it is safe to state that this is a strategic move that ensures us a position in the forefront of developments, says Malcolm Ginsburg, West Atlantic.
-The A320 is a splendid aircraft that will allow us to open up in new market segment, and we will enjoy the full benefits from support by AerCap and Airbus with these new aircraft, says Mr Ginsburg.
West Atlantic is also to take delivery of its, and the world's, first Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 converted freighter, and no decision has yet been taken as to where to allocate this new aircraft.
West Atlantic comprising West Air Sweden, Atlantic Airlines of the UK and West Air Luxembourg currently operates over 50 aircraft including the Boeing 737-300, Lockheed Electra, ATR-72, BAe ATP, and Bombardier CRJ-200-PF and Q400-PF.
