Oct 25, 2010 (newstodate): Ukraine's Lugansk Airport has big plans for its future role.
The airport with a 2,840 m runway is currently being reconstructed with works to be completed in connection with the Euro-2012 Cup, and projects include an expansion of the runway as well as the building of a new apron area.
After that the airport will seek a role as a logistics center for air traffic between Asia and Europe, notably freighter services.
In support of this strategy, the airport is reportedly in talks with Air France for setting up an aircraft maintenance center at the Lugansk for Air France freighters and other aircraft.
