Oct 01, 2010 (newstodate): Today marks the formal start of the aircraft de-icing season - and at Copenhagen Airport one provider is seeing its business growing.
-We count some 35 airlines among our customer portfolio for aircraft anti- and de-icing, and more are coming in, says Torben Andersen, Copenhagen Flight Services general manager.
-New among these is KLM/Air France, but we are pursuing also other new potentials such as Qatar Airways and other newcomers to the airport.
-In preparation for a new busy season we have added two new de-icing vehicles manufactured by the Swedish provider Safeaero, complementing our existing fleet of two FMC de-icing vehicles.
-De-icing is of course a most seasonal business, requiring the addition of some 25 skilled operators, called in when weather conditions are warranting de-icing operations. Besides this we employ five staff all-year round in our unit offering aircraft exterior cleaning, says Mr Andersen.
Copenhagen Flight Services, owned by the Swedish Nordic Aero Group, is also preparing to launch full handling operations at Copenhagen Airport after having obtained a license as the airport's third handling provider alongside SGS and Novia.
