Oct 12, 2010 (newstodate): Ever since the very launch of services in 2004 at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, Continental Airlines has seen a steady cargo performance in the Norwegian market.
As the only scheduled carrier with direct flights in the trans-Atlantic segment from Norway, the carrier operates daily on the route New York Newark Airport-Oslo Gardermoen with Boeing 757-200 aircraft that will lift some two tonnes of cargo on a full flight.
-The cargo space is invariably fully booked, and Continental has been impressed by the steady flow of cargo in the Norwegian market, says May Korsell, Kales Air Services, Continental's cargo GSA in Norway.
-Even on the occasions when Continental has operated Boeing 767 aircraft on the route, the aircraft have been fully booked with cargo, proving the potentials in the Norwegian market. We do hope, of course, that we will some day see the carrier replacing the Boeing 757 with larger aircraft as this would certainly boost our sales in the market.
-Besides the point-to-point traffic, Continental offers fast transiting options to a close network of US domestic destinations, which is another strong asset for us.
-Among the commodities exported from Norway on Continental Airways are ships spares, equipment for the oil industries, and certainly also salmon where we have firm contracts for transport of smaller quantities on a daily basis.
-Depending on the passenger bookings on the flights, we have carried up to five tonnes of cargo in the Boeing 757-200 aircraft, so we are keen to utilize any space available for cargo - and the cargo is always there, says Ms Korsell.
