Oct 15, 2010 (newstodate): Work is progressing on construction of a new airport at Poti, in Georgia.
The Poti port area is to be established as a free economic zone within the framework of a Georgian-United Arab Emirates project signed in April 2008, and construction of the planned new airport will be significantly boosted by the trade expected from this cooperation. 17 international companies have already signed up for locations in the economic free zone.
Poti Airport is owned by the local government, but LLC Ras al Khaimah Investment Authority is planned to take over 98.26 percent of the stake.
The airport will be commissioned in 2013, according to current planning.
