Oct 19, 2010 (newstodate): The Lithuanian ground handling company Litcargus is seeing business growing after a rather slow first half of the year.
-Since July, cargo volumes have again been on the rise both as to imports and exports, says Vidmantas Vaskys, Litcargus CEO.
-We will probably end up at around the same level as 2009, about 2,000 tonnes, thanks to the increased volumes during this latter half of the year.
-Imports were especially hard hit through the first half of the year reflecting the bad shape of the Lithuanian economy, but it is now picking up again. Exports have been doing pretty well, with a general increase spread over various industrial branches, maybe with pharmaceuticals taking the lead.
Litcargus is headquartered at Vilnius Airport and has a branch at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport, with some 200 staff at Vilnius and about 75 at Kaunas.
-Volumes are especially soaring at Kaunas Airport after the launch of the weekly Polet Airlines IL-96-400T freighter flight from Shanghai, managed by Hoptrans Logistics. Here, we are providing the airside cargo handling, while another company is responsible for the terminal handling of the shipments.
-This new traffic has led to intake of further staff at Kaunas airport, and we are expecting much from this new venture, says Mr Vaskys.
