Oct 14, 2010 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is seeing its cargo volumes booming during the first nine months of 2010.
A total of 1.3 mio tonnes of cargo was transported during period, an increase by 19.4 percent, y-o-y.
Measured by transported tonne-kilometers, sales even rose by 22.8 percent.
As Lufthansa Cargo had only implemented a moderate expansion of its offer by 5.9 percent, the cargo load factor improved by almost ten percentage points to 71.1 percent.
The growth in volumes were 27.9 percent in the American segment, 23.5 percent in Asia/Pacific, 15.1 percent in Europe, while volumes in Africa/Middle East dropped one percent during the period.
Driven by this positive trend, the carrier will return the last of its temporarily parked MD-11F freighters into service, bringing the active fleet to 18 aircraft by November 2010.
