Oct 19, 2010 (newstodate): Yet another attempt to reactivate Korean Air Cargo's freighter operation from Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport to Korea proved short-lived.
Announced to start with a weekly operation from October 12, the plan was aborted even before the first flight.
-It is with deep regret and sorrow that we have to inform you that Korean Air Cargo has decided not to re-open operations at Luleaa Kallax Airport as recently announced, says Korean Air Cargo's GSA in Norway in a written statement to forwarders.
-The reasons for this decision are based on a recent review with all relevant departments, raising a number of issues, such as aircraft availability, crew scheduling, maintenance, dispatching and local safety regulations. Unfortunately, the conclusion was that Korean Air, at the moment, is not prepared to add Kallax operations during the 2010/2011 winter season.
No further comments are available at this moment, but behind the decision may also be lack of firm, sufficient commitments from N orway's exporters of fresh salmon that should drive this traffic.
The flight through Luleaa Kallax should have been a stop intersected on Korean Air Cargo's Boeing 747-400F flight from Frankfurt to Seoul.
Korean Air Cargo is on-line in Norway at Oslo Gardermoen Airport with three weekly rotations.
