Oct 20, 2010 (newstodate): The US-led sanctions on Iran are posing obstacles for Iran Air's services between Tehran and European destinations.
Several major oil companies including Statoil, BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Q8 have stopped deliveries of jet fuel to Iran Air at European airports, forcing the carrier to either operate with limited cabin factors, or re-routing flights via airports in Germany and Austria that still allow fueling of Iran Air's aircraft.
Among the airports where Iran Air is now denied fueling is Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden.
-It is not the airport that denies Iran Air fueling, nor is it the local jet fuel distribution company. It is the oil companies delivering fuel to airports that have imposed these sanctions, says Anders Bredfell, Swedavia's press officer at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Besides the jet fuel sanctions, EU has also banned the carrier's seven Boeing 747 and five Airbus A320 aircraft from entering its airspace, leaving Iran Air with only 14 Airbus A300, eight Airbus A310 and one Boeing 737 to operate its European route network.
