Oct 08, 2010 (newstodate): Hungary's Budapest Ferihegy Airport is pinning great hopes on the launch of services from 2011 by the Gulf carrier Qatar Airways.
The carrier will launch traffic from Doha to Budapest from January 2011, offering four weekly rotations on the route to be served with Airbus A319 aircraft.
If the route proves successful, it is expected to grow to daily services and see the smaller A319 replaced by Airbus A330 aircraft, following the growth pattern seen in Qatar's opening of similar markets like the Scandinavian countries.
The new route Doha-Budapest will also offer Hungarian and other Central European travelers the option of direct east-bound one-stop flights via Doha to other destinations in Asia and the Pacific region served by Qatar Airways and its partners.
