Oct 05, 2010 (newstodate): The owners behind Star1 Airlines have initiated the liquidation process of the airline - but that may not spell the end of the carrier.
-For the last two weeks we have been in talks with Hainan Airlines and there have been much contact between the parties to verify the situation and the prospects. However, there is not yet any such thing as a signature to any paper, says Jurate Rupsiene, Star1 Airlines manager communication.
-As matters stand today, a delegation from Hainan Airlines will come to Lithuania by mid-October to meet with the Lithuanian ministry of transportation, Vilnius Airport and the management of Star1 Airlines. Only after that will be able to provide further information on the chances for reviving Star1 Airlines with a new investor, says Ms Rupsiene.
Hainan Airlines is one of four airlines in the group Grand China Airlines Holding, formed in 2007, and owned by the Hainan province government, 48.6 percent, George Soros, 18.6 percent, and Hainan Airlines Company Ltd, 32.8 percent.
