Oct 25, 2010 (newstodate): Suspending operations from October 15, 2010, the Swedish carrier Viking Airlines seems to be still intent on resurfacing from next summer.
The Swedish CAA suspended the carrier's AOC earlier this month, and the AOC suspension will last till March 31, 2011, after which date the authorities will reconsider the issue.
The carrier, belonging to the Viking Group 40 percent owned by Phil Wyatt, has now handed back its four Boeing aircraft to their owner, but plans are to restructure the airline and be back in the air again with next year's summer schedule.
In the meantime, Viking Hellas, based in Athens, operating four aircraft is not affected by the demise of the Swedish sister, but had one Airbus A320 aircraft temporarily arrested at London Gatwick Airport on October 19, 2010.
Accidentally, the airport mixed up Viking Airlines and Viking Hellas, so the aircraft was son released and returned to its owner, the Viking Group.
