Oct 21, 2010 (newstodate): Still in a test phase, the international certification of aircraft bio-fuel is expected by the first quarter of 2011.
The Japanese carrier JAL has conducted extensive test flights with bio-fuel since 2009, while a Boeing 747 from Virgin Atlantic was actually the first aircraft in the world to perform a flight on bio-fuel in 2008 already.
Also Continental and British Airways as well as the US Air Force have performed flights on various types of bio-fuels, and among others TAM and Air China will follow suit in 2010.
According to Airbus, 30 percent of the world's commercial flights may operate on bio-fuels in 2030.
