Oct 26, 2010 (newstodate): Nagorno-Karabagh's Stepanakert Airport is soon to be opened for commercial traffic.
The final assembly works of new equipment is now coming to an end, and the construction of a new passenger terminal will be completed by November, while the facility will be fully open for traffic from spring 2011.
First to come is a scheduled service by Armavia on the route between Yerevan, Armenia, and Stepanakert Airport, and other routes to CIS countries will follow thereafter.
Stepanakert Airport in the disputed Nagorno-Karabagh region, under de-facto Armenian control since the war with Azerbaijan in the 90ies, has been inoperative for 20 years.
Azerbaijan has, however, repeatedly protested against the start of flights from the airport and has threatened to take legal action if such plans materialize.
