Jan 27, 2010 (newstodate): While the governments of the Baltic states may still be divided in their opinions on the issue of the formation of a future pan-Baltic carrier, one party is at least positioning itself as a viable option: the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
In its latest move, airBaltic has announced the opening of a further four routes to connect Vilnius, Lithuania, with new European destinations.
From this spring, airBaltic will launch new flights from Vilnius to Dublin, Hamburg, Manchester, and Oslo, thus offering already a total of 13 direct flight routes from Vilnius.
Four weekly direct flights to Dublin will start on March 29, three weekly flights to Hamburg will be launched on March 30, and two weekly flights to Manchester will be added from March 31, while the carrier will operate four weekly flights to Oslo on May 17, 2010.
In 2010, airBaltic will open at least nine new direct routes from Riga, Latvia, having so far announced new destinations including Madrid, Belgrade, Vaasa, Umea, Beirut, and Amman.
The number of direct routes from Vilnius, announced by airBaltic over the past month, already total 10, including flights to London, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Hamburg, Manchester, Dublin, and Oslo.
