Jan 05, 2010 (newstodate): SAS has landed a contract to divest 18 MD-80 aircraft to Allegiant Travel Company, parent company of the US carrier Allegiant Air.
The aircraft were manufactured from 1985 to 1991 and will be delivered during the first half of 2010.
Allegiant has previously bought 13 SAS MD80 aircraft, and after the transaction the SAS Group will still have 24 MD-80 in operation to manage the seasonality effect in the Nordic region.
SAS is downsizing its aircraft fleet as part of its cost savings program, and will have a fleet of 191 aircraft after the latest transaction.
