Jan 11, 2010 (newstodate): The future of the freighter flights from Luleaa Kallax Airport, in northern Sweden, is in the balance.
The service was again suspended in November 2009 due to low demand, and while the group behind the initiative, Kallax Cargo, still maintains an optimistic attitude towards an early resumption of services, there is little to sustain the hopes.
Korean Air Cargo is currently assessing its entire cargo network operations and the allocation of capacity, and so far no decision has been made as to a resumption in 2010 of the flights from Luleaa to Incheon, South Korea.
-The Norwegian seafood exporters have been looking more westwards in 2009 as demand for Norwegian fresh salmon in the huge American market is booming after the fall-out of Chilean supplies, says an industry source.
The Kallax freighter has also not met targets for attracting other then seafood export shipments from industries in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
-The westward orientation of Norway's seafood export growth has instead favored the new freighter service from Oslo Gardermoen to New York and Miami, while the Kallax freighter has been able to perform only few of its expected operations due to low volumes of booking, says the industry source.
