Jan 05, 2010 (newstodate): The government of the Republic of Srpska has announced plans in 2010 for upgrading of Banja Luka International Airport and a further boost to the republic's aviation.
Banja Luka International Airport, with a 2,500m runway, was opened for civilian air traffic on November 18, 1997, but is still seeing little air traffic.
The only operator at the airport is currently Bosnia's B&H Airlines with flights to Zurich, Switzerland.
Before the end of October, the government will make its long-awaited decision on the acquisition of two jet aircraft for a new carrier, Sky Srpska, to be based at Banja Luka International Airport, and plans are to operate regional air routes and flights to Stuttgart.
