Jan 29, 2010 (newstodate): Slovenia's Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport will have continue its redevelopment with a new passenger terminal in 2011, capable of handling 500,000 passengers annually.
The 15.3 mio euro project will be funded by European Regional Development Fund and the Slovenian state.
The new project is an important element in the master-plan drawn up by Airport Consulting Vienna and the Ljubljana Spatial Planning Institute that won a public tender by the airport by the end of 2009.
The master-plan also comprises the acquisition of new ground handling equipment and re-development of existing infrastructure including hangars, garages and cargo terminals.
Close to the country's second-largest city, Maribor in the north-east of Slovenia, Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is also the country's second-largest airport with a 2,500 m runway certified to CAT I status.
