Jan 06, 2010 (newstodate): On the December 18, 2009, St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport re-commissioned its Runway 1, now rated CAT I and II.
During the reconstruction the concrete pavement of the runway and taxiways has been fully replaced, lighting facilities and electrical generating systems have been reconstructed, and a new bird scare system and ice formation detection system have been installed.
The Runway 1 was built in 1980 and is one of the two runways at Pulkovo Airport.
Earlier in 2006, the airport's second runway was reconstructed and is now also certificated for handling any aircraft types under any weather conditions.
With these projects completed, the airport has doubled its operational runway capacity.
