Jan 18, 2010 (newstodate): Russia's Ministry of Emergency Measures will put its fleet of freighters to work with foreign countries to carry emergency aid to Haiti.
The Russian ministry has been approached by many countries including Great Britain, Peru and Sweden to provide uplift for their relief cargo shipments, and will provide capacity for the operations.
The ministry will set up two transfer points at Havana, Cuba, and Caracas, Venezuela, to load shipments carried by AN-124 and IL-76 aircraft on smaller freighters like AN-24 that can operate into Haiti.
