Jan 05, 2010 (newstodate): EU will be co-financing a project to upgrade the winter maintenance equipment at Poland's Warsaw Airport.
The project will comprise the acquisition of equipment for maintenance of the required technical condition of the runway, taxiway and apron pavements, namely 10 runway sweepers, snow ploughs, and one sprinkler- spreader of pavement de-icing chemicals.
In the first stage of the project, a German-built Damman FEA 20036 spreader has been added to the winter maintenance fleet in 2009.
In the next stages of the project planned for 2010 and 2011, ten modern snow removing columns consisting of snow ploughs of 6.8 m operating width, 4x4 drive Mercedes Benz Actros tractors, and Norwegian-built Overaasen RS 400 runway sweepers of 5.5 m operating width will be used in the winter maintenance operations.
In a second phase of the project, the airport will receive new fire-fighting and rescue equipment.
