Jan 26, 2010 (newstodate): The general decline in the world's air cargo business hit hard at Hamburg Airport, in northern Germany, in 2009.
In 2009, the airport handled a total of 64,628 tonnes of cargo, compared to 78,283 tonnes in 2008 - a decline by 17,4 percent, y-o-y.
Hamburg Airport saw a temporary jump in volumes in 2007 when Emirates SkyCargo launched its freighter service from Dubai to Hamburg, driving the year's volumes up by 9.3 percent to 84,500 tonnes.
The general decline set in from 2008 as Emirates SkyCargo also canceled the freighter service again, causing volumes to drop by 7.6 percent, y-o-y.
At Hamburg airport, one-third of the total volumes are flown cargo, the rest comprising trucked cargo shipments.
