Jan 06, 2010 (newstodate): The new Handling company at Latvia's Riga Airport, North Hub Services starts out with passenger and ramp handling, but the business offer will soon be further expanded.
Already from the end of 2010, NHS plans to start providing cargo handling as well as part of its ramp services offer, according to the company's press spokesman.
NHS will, however, not provide cargo terminal handling that will remain with Baltic Cargo Center at Riga Airport.
NHS, managed by Janis Balkens as CEO, launched handling operations from January 1, 2010, ending Riga Airport's handling monopoly.
With launch customers airBaltic, Flight Consulting Group, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA, and Belavia, HNS is already now handling about 70 percent of the total traffic at Riga Airport.
North Hub Services has been established by Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas owned by Bertolt Flick, who is also the president and CEO of the Latvian carrier airBaltic that now carries about 50 percent of the passengers in the three Baltic states.
