Jan 11, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for construction of a new airport in Hungary's west Pannon region, at Popac, aim at relieving the region's congested airports as to cargo traffic.
The planned airport will have a 4,000 m runway allowing for operatoins by all types of cargo aircraft, and one cargo terminal will be built.
The airport will also seek passenger traffic and will comprise one passenger terminal.
Behind the project is a consortium, SIA Operations Ltd, including Chinese investors.
The Hungarian authorities have recommended the project, and work is already underway to secure the necessary permits for launching the project.
