Jan 27, 2010 (newstodate): While airport operators all over the world are considering the pros and cons with implementation of full-body scanners, Moscow's Domodedovo Airport has already used this technology for three years.
As early as in March 2007, Domodedovo Airport installed radiowave scanners SafeScout 100 in domestic and international security check points, and with almost three years of effective application these scanners have already proved their reliability.
The procedure reduces time of screening. It takes only two seconds to reveal and pinpoint metal, wooden, plastic and other items hidden on a human body, and as a result the technology provides capacity for up to 400 passengers per hour.
A scanner operator may see only a black and white shadow-figure on a monitor which does not allow identify a person screened.
Moreover, privacy can also be protected by using system functions that allow for further blurring of facial features and private areas.
