Jan 18, 2010 (newstodate): Austrian Airlines may lose significant business if the Russian courts decide against its existing traffic rights in the Russian market.
The Russian party has taken the stand that Austrian Airlines is no longer an "Austrian" carrier at all after it was acquired by the German carrier Lufthansa in 2009 - and consequently its traffic rights in Russia should be revoked.
The case is reminiscent of earlier EU probes into the continued EU status of airlines like the Hungarian Malev after the infusion of Russian capital into its ownership.
A decision by the Russian courts is now expected in March, 2010.
