Jan 05, 2010 (newstodate): Conditions seem to be ripening for a cautious resumption of air traffic between Georgia and Russia.
Sources say the first charter flights by Georgia's Georgian Airways from Tbilisi to Moscow will be performed on January 8 to 10, while plans are also on the table for resumption of charter flights from Tbilisi to St Petersburg on January 9 to 10, 2010.
Hopes by Georgian Airways also include further charter flights to Moscow on January 16, 20 and 22, 2010, but this will require further negotiations.
Direct air services between Georgia and Russia came to a stop in 2006 after an alleged spy case between the two countries.
In 2008, flights were resumed for a short period, but were then suspended again after the military clash between Georgia and Russia in August 2008.
