Jan 15, 2010 (newstodate): The EU Commission has approved public support for a cargo-related project at Finland's Vaasa Airport.
A number of large industrial companies including ABB and companies in the wind turbine and electronics industries are located in Finland's Ostrobothnia region that is lacking in specialized facilities for air cargo handling to serve their export needs.
The need for new cargo infrastructure has also been discussed between the airport and companies including DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.
A projects has therefore been designed, including the construction of a new cargo terminal, a new apron and new taxiways at the airport.
Expectations are that the project may be launched within half a year, and completed with one year when launched.
