Jan 14, 2010 (newstodate): Effective from February 12, 2010, Lithuania will get a new air-link to Amsterdam.
Behind the plans is Estonian Air that will operate the existing route from Tallinn, Estonia, to Amsterdam through Vilnius, Lithuania, in a code-share cooperation with KLM, as is also the case since June 7, 2009, with the current route between Estonia's Tallinn and Amsterdam after KLM ceased operating its own route between the two destinations.
The new route to be served six times weekly between Vilnius Airport and Amsterdam will become Estonian Air's first between two points outside Estonia.
The route also signals a new era for Estonian Air that is 49 percent owned by the SAS Group and is in negotiations over sale of the SAS stake in the company as a first step towards defining a new strategy for its future.
Already serving the route between Vilnius and Amsterdam since January 4, 2010, is the Latvian carrier, airBaltic with six weekly rotations.
