Jan 15, 2010 (newstodate): Moscow Domodedovo Airport is building up its capacity for serving as a major Russian hub for perishables.
Perishables now account for 10 percent of of the general import cargo volume, and the share is continuously rising, leading the airport to increase the capacity of freezing and cooling stores.
In cooperation with the Domodedovo customs, the airport has launched pre-arrival customs declaration of perishables shipments, allowing for minimizing time of perishables storage at the airport's terminals.
Flowers now constitute 22.8 percent of all perishables imports at Moscow Domodedovo airport.
The airport is currently in talks with partners in the perishables industry about ways to attract new flows of perishables, and the airport is especially seeking to attract new all-cargo flights bringing in flowers, fruit, and vegetables to the Moscow market.
