Jan 12, 2010 (newstodate): The depression in Lithuania's aviation business in 2009 reflected directly in the capital airport's cargo volumes.
The airport handled a total of 4,336 tonnes of cargo in 2009, a decline by 24.16 percent, y-o-y.
Even the traditionally busy Christmas season brought no consolation to Vilnius as volumes were down 11.7 percent in December, to 478 tonnes.
The prime cargo movers at Vilnius Airport were the Latvian carrier airBaltic with 41.1 percent of the total volumes, Aviavilsa, operating for the integrators, with 24.5 percent, Lufthansa with 11.6 percent, CSA with 10.8 percent, and Finnair with 5.2 percent.
