Sep 21, 2009 (newstodate): After a prolonged delay in the political process, work has now started on construction of a new Romanian airport.
Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport at Ghimbav, near Brasov, will be completed in modules, with launch of operations from 2011, equipped with a 10.000 sq m passenger terminal with capacity to handle 400 passengers per hour and two million passengers per year, and with a 2,600 m runway.
The airport, to be built by Canadian company Intelcan, will also have the capacity to handle 6,000 tonnes of air cargo per hour.
